"Jazz Keyboard" Part 2
by Dick Grove

'Jazz Keyboard 2' Builds on the
first series of 8 lessons in
'Jazz Keyboard 1'

Learn concepts and apply them to standards and interesting harmonic situations as you practice with the professional trio backing you up.

Each of the five lessons in this course are divided into the following departments:

IMPROVISATION
Now that the basics have been established in Part 1, we will be working on Creating Motifs, Developing Motifs, Playing over changes, mixing playing over and through changes and rhythmic phrasing.

VOICINGS
Using Dick Grove's 'Shape Concept',  we will be mastering two-hand voicings using triad shapes in the right hand with 4th shapes in the left.  This is the modern sound of jazz keyboard and you will sound like a seasoned professional when you are able to interpret any song with these voicings

KEYBOARD SETTINGS
Voicings will be applied to many practical and pianistic settings using these new sounds for Solo Piano as well as Comping in both Ballad tempos and fast rhythmic tempos

CHORD SUBSTITUTION
More in-depth application of re-interpreting standards with your own version of interesting chord changes. These are shown to you to allow you to use them spontaneously. You start improvising with chord changes just like you do with melodies!

TECHNIQUE
We continue with fingerings for more of the minor and some of the more exotic scales.

At this level of instruction, your playing and practicing time gives you some real results! You will have the ability to create sounds and voicings that sound like professional modern keyboard stylists!  Your improvisation will gradually mature and expand as we study the nuances and finer points of creating melodies
