Walt Franklin (See It - Hear It / Hear It Play It. Jazz Keyboard 1)
I am one of those who tried to teach himself to play the piano. I bought a couple of piano courses and attended several classes in the Community Colleges and I will say I learned a lot of theory, and that was it! I have been in your course for a year now and I think it is a great way to learn to play the piano. The lessons are reasonably priced and are well written, and with diligent practice and study, one can learn to play the piano the way it should be played. I had a lot of knowledge but didnt know what to do with it. I wish I had studied your lessons years ago! I have had so much theory explained in your lessons and now I know where and how to put them to good use. Its a lot easier if a person knows the how, what, when
and where.
With the Jazz Keyboard 1 course, I believe I can reasonably play and enjoy the piano a lot more. If I forget something, I can always refer back to the videos and books, and go from there. I would recommend your approach to teaching to anyone who would ask!

Kathy Craig - (Keyboard 1, 2, 3 & 4)
I have used everything I learned, studying with Dick, in one working situation or another. Time was not spent on things like figured bass,or styles of Gregorian Chant. Dicks logical and concise explanation of harmony is amazing because it saved months (years?) of bewilderment and fumbling

I attended a university for three years studying music. The only problem was what I was studying was not applicable to the work I was doing as a full-time musician. After a year with Dick I was given so much practical, relevant information about my profession that I felt transformed. Because I attained a realistic picture of the business and for the first time started developing the skills I needed to succeed, I almost immediately started working in situations where I had to draw on this new information

First, the pragmatic approach used in the textbooks give the student a practical nomenclature of todays sound (I usually found that I could use what I learned that evening on the gig!).
Second, the instruction is from a professional, real world point-of-view, rather than a stagnant, academic one. An excellent 360 degree approach to the study of TODAYS sound.

Dicks keyboard courses teach how to play your own music in the most comprehensive and unique manner. He definitely has avoided the heres what to do, see you later syndrome, exhibited by all the other courses and study methods I have seen.

What I like best about the Dick Grove Jazz Keyboard Course is the way each lesson is structured, for example; Lesson 1 prepares you for whats coming in Lesson 2. You can build a strong foundation with this method of learning without cramming your brain with details that may not be important until much later in the course. Theres additional help for each lesson. Dick is there on video tape to explain points. He also plays examples from each lesson on an audio CD. If you really get stuck, there is help from him on the phone. You cant go wrong. Ive wanted to play a piano and sound really professional for most of my adult life. The only way I knew to get there was through years of formal study at music schools. Now, Dick Grove has provided me and all of us the opportunity to reach our goals in music with his unique School Without Walls. Without any reservation or hesitation, I would recommend the Dick Grove School Without Walls!
